Compassion in Action

Community Networking

Fostering meaningful connections and personal growth, Community Networking Services at Blackwells help your loved one create a fulfilling and engaging daily routine through real-world experiences. These services are delivered in community-based settings—not in homes or facility-based programs—so participants can build authentic relationships with peers outside of paid support networks. Whether it’s enrolling in a local class, volunteering, joining a community group, or learning to navigate public transportation, we provide the guidance and encouragement needed to promote independence. From hobby-based clubs to self-advocacy groups and social meetups, each experience is designed to boost confidence, develop life skills, and cultivate a genuine sense of belonging. Our goal is to help your loved one feel connected, valued, and empowered within their community.

Day Support Program

At Blackwells Community Living, our Day Support Program is designed to provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities a supportive, engaging environment that promotes growth, independence, and connection. Each day is thoughtfully structured to include activities that build daily living skills, encourage creativity, and foster social interaction. From arts and crafts to life skills workshops, volunteer opportunities, and community outings, we focus on helping each participant reach their personal goals while enjoying a meaningful and fulfilling day. Our trained staff work closely with individuals to ensure activities align with their interests, abilities, and support needs. Whether learning new skills, making friends, or exploring the community, participants thrive in a space that celebrates their strengths and encourages their potential. At Blackwells, we believe every day should be purposeful—and our Day Program is just one way we help make that a reality.

Supportive Employment

Helping individuals gain independence through meaningful work, the Supported Employment Services at Blackwells are built to guide your loved one through every stage of employment. From job readiness training—including resume building, interview preparation, and career exploration—to on-the-job coaching and long-term support, we tailor our services to meet each person’s strengths and goals. We also assist with group employment options like mobile crews or enclaves, and offer guidance for those interested in launching a small business. Once employed, our team remains involved by consulting with employers and ensuring the right accommodations are in place. Transportation assistance is available to support reliable access to work or training opportunities. Whether your loved one is entering the workforce for the first time or looking to build on existing experience, we’re here to provide the skills, structure, and support they need to thrive in an inclusive work environment.

Assisted Family Living (AFL)

At Blackwells Community Living, we believe everyone deserves a caring home where they can grow and feel supported. Our Assisted Family Living (AFL) Program pairs individuals with unique developmental needs with trained caregivers who provide personalized help with daily activities like personal care, meal preparation, medication management, and transportation. The program emphasizes building independence while fostering meaningful relationships in a family-style environment. Caregivers encourage community involvement, skill development, and social connections to help each person lead a fulfilling life. By offering consistent, one-on-one support in a safe, welcoming home, Blackwells ensures each individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. Our commitment is to create stability, belonging, and opportunities for growth for everyone we serve.

Community Living Support (CLS)

Designed to foster independence and everyday confidence, the Community Living Support (CLS) Program at Blackwells focuses on empowering individuals to thrive in their own homes and communities. Whether it’s assistance with cooking, cleaning, budgeting, or personal care, our team provides flexible, hands-on support tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals. We also encourage participation in social, recreational, and volunteer activities that promote community connection and personal growth. By helping individuals build essential life skills and navigate daily routines with greater ease, CLS ensures they can live with dignity, choice, and purpose. Every service is delivered with compassion, respect, and a commitment to long-term success.

Supportive Living

At Blackwells Community Living, our Supportive Living Program empowers those with developmental challenges to live as independently as possible in a safe and supportive environment. Whether in their own apartment or shared housing, participants receive personalized assistance tailored to their unique needs. Our dedicated staff help with daily activities such as medication management, meal preparation, housekeeping, budgeting, and transportation, while encouraging skill development and personal choice. The program emphasizes community involvement and social connection, helping individuals build confidence and lead fulfilling lives. With flexible support designed to promote autonomy, Blackwells ensures each person has the resources and guidance necessary to make decisions and participate fully in their community. Our goal is to foster independence while providing compassionate care that respects each individual’s dignity and goals.

Respite

Caring for a loved one is rewarding—but it also requires rest. Respite Services at Blackwells Community Living give primary caregivers the chance to take a break, attend to personal matters, or handle emergencies, all while knowing their loved one is in trusted hands. Care can be provided in your home, a caregiver’s home, or a licensed facility, and may include short-term, overnight, weekend, or continuous care for up to 10 days. This service is designed to support the caregiver without disrupting your routine or quality of care. To be eligible, the primary caregiver must live with you and be the main person responsible for your day-to-day care. During respite, the provider’s focus remains solely on you—services cannot extend to siblings or other family members. Respite is a vital resource that supports not just the caregiver’s well-being, but the strength and stability of the whole family.
